Day 2 of the mission – adaptation and first steps on the ISS mission ax-4 mission ignis

First day in orbit adaptation day

After docking, the crew of the Ax‑4 mission focused on adapting to life in microgravity conditions. The astronauts equipped their sleeping bags and sleeping stations – Peggy Whitson used the module, Shubhanshu Shukla used the Dragon, Sławosz Uznański used the Columbus module, and Tibor Kapu used the Japanese JEM module.

They also conducted the handover of responsibilities from the Expedition 73 station and familiarised themselves with safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Start of research and communication with Ziemia

The second day of the mission began with unpacking goods from Dragon and preparations for experiments. Included in the schedule are:

  • Review of operational procedures of ISS

  • Collection of over 60 scientific studies from 31 countries — the most in the history of Axiom Space commercial missions

  • Educational and media activities – short presentations, broadcasts, and communication with Earth directed towards schools and youth

Why is this important?
  • The Ax-4 mission is becoming Axiom Space's most advanced scientific project on the ISS, with the highest number of commercial and scientific experiments conducted in a single flight

  • The Leap to Space Foundation particularly emphasises experiments related to Poland and ESA – updates will be provided continuously as part of the IGNIS mission.

What's next?

We await information on the first research results and further days of astronauts' work, as well as educational and community relations, which will be available on the foundation's website.
