Ax-4 Mission: The crew is ready to return to Earth!
11 Jul 2025

After more than two weeks of intensive work in orbit, the Ax-4 crew is concluding their research and preparing for return.
Final duties on the ISS and preparations for departure
On the sixteenth day of the mission, the Ax-4 crew completed most of the planned scientific experiments conducted aboard the International Space Station. Peggy Whitson, Shubhanshu Shukla, Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski, and Tibor Kapu spent the final hours organising research equipment, securing samples and data, and preparing the Dragon capsule for the return journey.
The mission included a series of groundbreaking experiments in biology, human physiology, materials technology, and mental health that will provide valuable data for future space missions—both commercial and long-range manned missions.
After concluding the research, the crew focused on packing research equipment and personal belongings into the Dragon capsule. Simultaneously, leak tests of the hatches and onboard systems of the Dragon were conducted to ensure the spacecraft is ready to detach from the ISS.
The astronauts also held final meetings with Expedition 73, who remain on the station, expressing gratitude for their support in conducting research and operations during the mission.
During breaks in preparations, crew members took the opportunity for final views of Earth from the Cupola module, documenting both unique atmospheric phenomena and the beautiful vistas of our planet. As they emphasise, these moments linger in memory and are among the most significant experiences related to spaceflight.
Return Plan
According to the latest information, the Dragon capsule with the Ax‑4 crew will disconnect from the ISS no earlier than Monday, 14 July, depending on the weather conditions in the landing zone and the station configuration. NASA, ESA, and Axiom Space will confirm the exact departure and landing time in the upcoming hours.
