Sławosz Uznański

The Polish astronaut Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski will fly into space!
We are proud to announce that Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski – a Polish engineer, scientist, and project astronaut of the European Space Agency (ESA) – will undertake a historic flight to the International Space Station (ISS) as part of the Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4) endeavor. The mission launch is planned no earlier than the spring of 2025.
Who is Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski?
Sławosz Uznański was born in 1984 in Łódź. He is a graduate of Politechnika Łódzka, Université de Nantes, and École Polytechnique de l'Université de Nantes. In 2011, he obtained a doctorate in the field of designing radiation-resistant systems for space applications at Université d'Aix-Marseille.
He worked as a reliability expert at CERN, where he was responsible for radiation testing and the development of systems for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). From 2018 to 2020, he served as the Supervising Engineer of the LHC, in charge of its daily operation.
In November 2022, he was selected for the ESA astronaut reserve, and from September 2023, he started training as a project astronaut. In August 2024, he was officially assigned to the Ax-4 mission as a mission specialist.
Scientific and Educational Mission
During his time on the ISS, Uznański will participate in scientific experiments in the fields of biology, medicine, material physics, and technology, many of which are conducted in collaboration with Polish research institutions. The mission also aims to inspire the younger generation to take an interest in science and technology.

A symbolic moment for Poland
The mission's launch will be the second instance in history when a Polish citizen travels into space, following the pioneering flight of Mirosław Hermaszewski in 1978. Uznański will take with him aboard the ISS the Polish flag that accompanied Hermaszewski, as well as traditional pierogi, symbolising the continuity of Polish presence in space.

Collective Viewing of the Launch – Social Mobilisation
We encourage educational, scientific, cultural, and civic institutions to organize joint viewings of the rocket launch broadcast featuring Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski. This is a unique opportunity to build community around Polish presence in space – in the spirit of inspiration, knowledge, and dreams of the future.
Education
We educate, inspire, and discover
Our mission is to inspire and educate – we believe that the future begins with knowledge. We create an educational space for those who aspire to reach higher.
